Human Services

Human Services & Medical Professions CareersThe first year of this program focuses on life-span development and issues. Students will learn professional work habits, work place safety practices, interpersonal, helping and communication skills. They will study human development, and health and wellness issues throughout the life cycle. The second year of the program focuses on gaining skills and knowledge in working with young children (birth through twelve years) and their families. Students will also learn about the services provided by human services agencies. Students may gain experience and knowledge by working in a variety of human services settings as part of the program. Placements may include home day care, center care, elementary school, preschool and working with the elderly. These placements enable the student to apply techniques learned in the classroom as well as further gain knowledge about human services, working with others and life-span development.
   
For students in grades: 11-12 (grade 10 with permission of instructor)
Credits: A maximum of three credits per year
Graduation Requirement: Social Studies- A student who successfully completes this two-year program shall receive one credit in Social Studies towards graduation. (This credit may not count as a credit in U.S. History or World History.)
Prerequisite: Grade level Math with a 70 or above; English 10 with a 75 or above; or Instructor approval
Post High School Education: Human Services graduates have enrolled in CCV, Hudson Valley Community College, Castleton, Putnam Hospital School of Nursing, University of New Hampshire, Southern Vermont College, Bennington College, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts
College Connections: Human Services students may be offered the opportunity to enroll in the Human Development course at Vermont Technical College and earn three college credits, as well as credits from CCV
Student Organizations: Students taking this program are eligible to participate in SkillsUSA contests, field trips and events.
Certifications: Students can earn CPR & First Aid Certifications.
