Information Technology

Computer Technology & Networking

This two-year program provides professional knowledge of microcomputers as well as networked systems and their uses in the business world. Computers and software will be used as practical productivity tools to approach everyday business problems and activities with speed, accuracy and efficiency. This program teaches the student the skills necessary to provide technical support to an ever growing number of computer and network users in business today. Students may also acquire the computer skills necessary for success in many varied college programs of study.
 
   
For students in grades: 11-12 (exceptions for 10th grade with instructor approval)
Scheduling: Please contact the SVCDC Guidance Counselor for scheduling
Credits: A maximum of three credits per year
Graduation Requirement: Science and Technology - A student who is enrolled in COMPUTER TECH & NETWORKING 2, the second year of the program, will be able to earn one science credit toward graduation requirements and the title COMPUTER SCIENCE will appear on schedules, report cards, and transcripts with separate grades. MAUHS students can earn the required 0.5 Technology credit by completing the first year of this program
Prerequisite: Grade level math with a 70 or above & permission of instructor
Suggested Preparation: Creative Computing and good word processing skills
Post High School Education: Computer Tech graduates have enrolled in Southern Vermont College, CCV, Rochester Institute of Technology, Community College of Connecticut, Endicott, Hudson Valley Community College, Vermont Technical College, State University of New York
Employment: Computer Tech graduates have been employed by Porter Brace, NSK, Hampton Hotel and Radio Shack
Student Organizations: Students taking this program are eligible to participate in SkillsUSA contests, field trips and events.
Industry Recognized Certifications: Computer Technology is a Cisco Certified Training Program. Students completing this program will be eligible to take the CompTIA A Plus Computer Service Technician certification examination.
