Cosmetology

Are you someone who loves working with people in a career that offers excitement, creative expression, and outstanding monetary rewards? Then the Cosmetology Program may be right for you. This 2-year program will help prepare you to become a licensed professional in the field of Cosmetology and open doors to your future that you may not have known existed. Students will learn theory as well as the application of practical skills including customer relations, teamwork, interpersonal communication, initiative, reliability, professionalism, attire and other workplace and employability readiness skills. Students accepted into the second year of the program will work in a client oriented environment as well as continuing with their academic and practical arts studies.

A Beautiful Beginning
The Cosmetology Program will offer the opportunity to obtain the required 1500 hours for licensure through a variety of learning experiences including classroom work, client oriented work, field trips, job shadowing, cooperative work experiences, and more. This 2-year program will help prepare you to become a licensed professional in the field of Cosmetology and open doors to your future that you may not have known existed. Students accepted into the second year of the program will work in a client oriented environment as well as continuing with their academic and practical arts studies.

Industry Recognized Certifications:
Students who complete the two-year program will earn up to 1440 hours towards their Vermont State License through classroom and practical experiences. Additional hours may be obtained via cooperative opportunities with local salon partners as well as attendance at trade shows and workshops. Others may transfer their hours to a post secondary institution or continue to pursue their license through an apprenticeship program. Students that complete the required 1500 hours, have their high school diploma or GED, and are at least 18 years of age, may apply to take the Vermont State Cosmetologist License Examination.

Career Development Center - Course Catalog

Adults are welcome to apply for daytime technical programs. A Vermont resident adult without a high school diploma is a secondary student and is eligible for tuition to be paid by their school district. Adults with high school diplomas will be charged a tuition. Financial aid may be available. Contact the Adult Education Office at 447-3596.
