Automotive Technology

Automotive Technology Automotive Technology is a NATIONALLY CERTIFIED AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN TRAINING Program. This is a two-year theory and hands-on program. Year one of the program is designed to give the student insight and training in the auto mechanics field in the following areas: careers in the auto industry, shop safety, hand tools, power tools, automotive shop equipment, introduction to automotive systems, preventive maintenance, wheels and tires, steering and suspension systems, alignment and brake systems. Year two of the program is designed to give the student skills in the following areas: shop safety, Vermont State Inspection Program, starting and charging systems, emission control systems, fuel systems, electrical circuits, computer systems, airbags, and antilock brakes.

The main goal of SkillsUSA is to provide students who are preparing for a wide variety of careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, with professional development opportunities that supplement their academic and technical education. SkillsUSA programs and activities help its 285,000 student members develop public speaking skills, and improve their ability to conduct and participate in meetings, manage financial matters, solve problems, and assume responsibility for community service. Students participate in state leadership conferences and competitions. Each June, students earning first place at the state level in leadership and technical skill competitions, travel to Kansas City, MO to compete at the national conference.
